Summertime Crime

We are officially into the second week of the District's Crime Emergency, and so it is once again time to remind everyone to be on high alert and take action to make Logan a less attractive place for criminals.

Last night, Lt. Smith and Sgt. Emerman hosted meeting to discuss the crime emergency, alert us to things we can be doing, and ask for our assistance in identifying areas of concern. Several key areas were identified:

One of the most important things we can do is make our neighborhood less attractive to criminals. This means that hedges should be trimmed, street lights should be working, and graffiti should be eliminated. Sgt. Emerman emphasized the importance of neighborhood walk-throughs to identify issues, as well as follow-up with District departmentsand property owners. Or call 727-1000 or go to www.src.dc.gov to report infrastructure issues. More information about how to follow-up and report infrastructure issues is available on ANC2F's CCPS website.

As some of you know, the Crime and Public Safety Committee organized a walk-through of SMD 2F06 in May, and has another planned on August 19. We encourage all of you to participate, but as was noted last night, the crime emergency is NOW, so please consider organizing a group of your friends and neighbors on your block and identify key issues. Sgt. Emerman also indicated that he or one of his officers would be available to go on walk-throughs with us. If you're interested in organizing a more formal walk-through, please contact me or Mike Sheaffer.

Lt. Smith and Sgt. Emerman also identified some problem areas in our PSA, that require us to be extra vigilant, and to report overgrown bushes, trash, etc. at or near these sites.

These include:
1316 12th Street NW
1432 9th Street NW
10th/L NW (Quincy Park)
1538 9th Street
1400 Block of Mass Ave NW (near the hotels)
14th Street Corridor

As always, report any suspicious behavior by calling 3-1-1 or 9-1-1. Be persistent, and do not hesitate to call again if the issue recurs or is not resolved satisfactorily the first time. MPD allocates resources and officers based, in part, on the number of calls received, so call and call again (if needed) when you see something that isn't right.

Stay tuned to our blog for updates as we receive them, and please let us know what crime and public safety concerns you have.

Stay Safe!

For the past two nights (7/24 & 7/25), there have been police present at the corners of 11th and R St. It looks as if they are random vehicle checks occuring. Is there a specific reason as to this exercise in this location? JCH

I created this site over the weekend to plot DC crimes on a Google map and provide crime statistics for the District.

www.crimeindc.org

Hopefully this will be a good resource for the city.
